DAY 1: A song you’ve seen performed live
End of Fashion - O Yeah
Generally when I go to see concerts, I do so by myself as:
- I am too cheap to buy tickets so I sit outside where security can’t see me, and no one is game to do it with me or
- I see really obscure acts that no one knows /wants to go with me to.
So this was actually the most fun to see live as they came to my school when I was in year 12 a few years back and I got to actually enjoy a concert with some friends.

Day 30 – Your favorite song at this time last year
ICP - Miracles
Fucking magnets, how do they work? And with that we come to the end of the challenge. It’s been good sharing my utterly bizzare taste in music with you.
Day 29 – A song from your childhood
Eiffel 65 - Blue (Da Ba Dee)
I remember back in the late 90’s when I’d listen to this song all the time. I even had a 60 minute tape that I recorded which was just this song played 10 times on loop or something like that. Pretty sure I drove my parents insane for that.
Day 28 – A song that makes you feel guilty
Mel Brooks - To Be Or Not To Be (The Hitler Rap, Part 1)
In so many ways, this is the most fucked up thing I have ever seen. A Jewish man dressed up as Hitler? Half naked schutzstaffel officers in a conga line heiling? This 1980s relic is perhaps the most bizzarre thing to be produced by the decade.
Day 27 – A song that you wish you could play I’d like to play this arrangement and not the original because the piano is so much more emotive, and because I want to play the piano. This song is like the best ballad and rendition ever. I never used to listen to the lyrics, but now that I do they have so much more meaning.
Howard Jones - White Flag (Dido cover)
Day 26 – A song that you can play on an instrument Mixing it up a bit today - I play the original on my bass but I just can’t go past this cover, let alone the whole Interpreting the Masters, Volume 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates. Money’s the matter - if you’re in it for love you ain’t gonna get too far.
The Bird and the Bee - Maneater (Hall and Oates cover)
Day 25 – A song that makes you laugh Although it is a parody by Santo Cilaro (of Cup Fever/Late Show/TGYH fame) it never fails to make me laugh. 5, 4, 3, 1, OFFBLAST!
Zlad - Supersonic Electronic
Day 24 – A song that you want to play at your funeral
Europe - The Final Countdown
I decided this long ago for many reasons. Namely due to the awesomeness. This will be written in my will as will the need for firecrackers in my funeral. I also would play some more appropriate but awesome songs too.
I don’t want my funeral in a church however I do want a pipe organ cover (Hammond XK-3 anyone?).
Day 23 – A song that you want to play at your wedding
Rick Astley - Hopelessly
I have always thought that there should be some Rick or Savage Garden at my wedding - Rick for obvious reasons and Savage Garden due to the occasion and general awesomeness. I looked up a list of top wedding songs and it turns out Together Forever was on the list (final position 25) but personally I think “Hopelessly” is better suited. I love them both and SG though. Other Rick songs like “Never Knew Love” could work but I reckon ballads are more suited.
An interesting choice would be Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson’s “The Best Things In Life Are Free”.
